Partnering Philosophy
Make Partnering a Culture/Mindset, Not A Process.
We all love Mr. Miyagi from the movie “Karate Kid”. When his student Daniel was desperately wanting to achieve his blackbelt, Mr. Miyagi gave Daniel some sage and gentle advice. He told Daniel pointing to his belt that Karate was not expressed in the belt itself but rather in the heart and mind. Likewise, partnering is not a process or a specific conference room in which you go have it. Partnering should be treated like a culture, a mindset.

Jonathan Gabelein
Jonathan has been involved in the management of all project and program phases from design and construction to final close out of complex landmark public and private contracts totaling over $5 billion.
He has led teams of all sizes and collaboration efforts in solving highly complex technical and management issues on high visibility and public impact projects ranging from mega light rail expansion construction programs, tunnels, bridges, floating bridges, commercial buildings, and even a world class symphony hall.
With nearly equal experience as an owner and contractor, Jonathan has a unique perspective because he has sat in both their chairs and walked in each of their boots working through differing or conflicting interests to achieve “Mission First” objectives.
Over the years I have seen partnering reduced to a process or a “check the box” procedure. I fervently believe that to make something like partnering work, it has to become a culture of the team and integrated into your daily operations.
